Historical Background : In ancient granths this place name is written as Sankhapur.
It is written in Jain Granths asadhi Shravak installed Jina Idols in Charup Stambhpur and Sankheshwar in ancient times. Minister of Shri Siddhiraj Jaysingh, Sajjan Shah rennovated this tirthstan in Bikram Sambastar 1155 by allwise man of Kaliyug Shri Himachandracharyas Guru Mahanacharya Shri Devendra Surishwarji. In the 14th century Allayudins Army destroyed most of the temple. At that time Shri Sangh saved Sankheshwar Prabhus Idol. Shri Manaji Shravak rennovated this place in Bikram Sambastar 1760.

Each year mela takes place on Chaitri Purnnima, Kartik Purnnima and Pousa Krishna Dasami. There are some ancient temple in ruined condition and 108 Parshwanath Jinalaya located here. Harij railway station is 8 Km. from here, Viram village 72 Km. and Mahesan 80 Km. from here. Near by big village Panchsir is 8 Km. and Badgaon 11 miles from here. It is connected by Pucca road and Bus and Taxi facilities are available here. Dharmasalas and Bhojanalyas are also available here.
